Today, Vulture released its first-ever digital issue, “The Action Edition,” featuring Jake Gyllenhaal as its inaugural cover star. Releasing at vulture.com, the action-themed issue will include a profile of Gyllenhaal, star of the new Road House remake directed by Doug Liman.

The digital issue will include “100 Fights That Shaped Action Cinema,” a meticulously crafted list that’s a testament to the evolving landscape of fight scenes that showcases their transformative journey over time. Each entry has been thoughtfully chosen to exemplify its profound impact on filmmaking techniques, the inception of new tropes, the advancement of stunt-work professionalism, and, above all, the ingenious use of physical violence as both a creative and a narrative tool.

“We’re always thinking about new ways to make the biggest possible deal out of the work we publish, especially when it comes to format and presentation,” says Neil Janowitz, Vulture editor. “Last fall, when Vulture’s deputy editor Katy Brooks and I were making plans for both ‘100 Fights’ and the second Stunt Awards, we realized the two projects pair well — we seemingly had the basis of something bigger. And having long admired the Cut’s digital covers from across the New York newsroom, it became clear this could be a moment to introduce something similar for Vulture. Those coalesced over the subsequent months into ‘The Action Edition,’ a project I’m very proud to publish and one that represents new opportunities for us as we program the site and work with talent.”

To culminate it all, for the second year in a row, Vulture is celebrating the Stunt Awards, honoring those who exemplify both the artistry and technical expertise that go into safely coordinating chaos and carnage onscreen — from hand-to-hand combat and shoot-outs to vehicular and aerial feats of speed and the ensuing explosions — and who have long been snubbed by the Academy Awards, which lack a Best Stunts category.
