Top-secret ‘Game of Thrones’ event planned for Union Square

Union Square could face a dragon invasion next week as part of a “Game of Thrones”-themed promotion planned by the network behind the smash series.

HBO’s top-secret event, scheduled for March 15, is set to get “Thrones” fans pumped up for the upcoming new season of the cable fantasy series.

A Parks Department spokesperson confirmed that the premium cable network applied for a special event permit on Feb. 22 for a day-long event next Tuesday, but declined to share any details.

Community Board 5 listed HBO’s request for a “‘Game of Thrones’ installation at Union Square Park to promote the release of the Season 5 DVD/Blu-Ray” in its online calendar.

Its committee approved the request, and the full board is expected to vote on the matter Thursday.

HBO was tighter-lipped than “Thrones” character Varys, refusing to reveal any specifics about the event.

Season 6 premieres April 24 and will go past the point author George R.R. Martin has written in the books on which the TV show is based. Martin has been working on the sixth book, “The Winds of Winter,” for at least four years.
