Violent threats texted to all black eighth-graders at school: cops

Police are investigating violent threats texted anonymously to all of the black eighth-graders at a Texas junior high, according to officials.

The students reportedly were sitting at lunch Monday at Seven Lakes Junior High in Katy when they received the same terrifying message, news station KTRK reported.

“It went from phone to phone to phone,” student Joy Smith told the station. “When everybody got it they started looking up at each other. I looked across the room and there was a table of black boys and they were looking at their phones, too.”

The racist text messages, which came from two separate unknown numbers, contained the N-word and included threats of violence, according to administrators.

Katy Independent School District officials said there would be more security at the school as a precaution.

“This afternoon the campus administration at Seven Lakes Junior High was made aware of some racial and threatening text messages sent to a group of students, from two unknown numbers,” a district spokesperson said in a statement. “The school administration along with the Katy ISD Police Department immediately launched an investigation to determine the source behind these inappropriate and offensive text messages.”
