Jed Lowrie’s Mets debut will have to wait

Mets officials have decided against removing Jed Lowrie from the IL to play against the Marlins on Friday.

Lowrie will remain at Triple-A Syracuse at least through the weekend to receive additional at-bats in his rehab assignment. Lowrie is just 1-for-16 (.063) for Syracuse and 2-for-23 (.087) combined for Single-A St. Lucie and Syracuse during his rehab assignment.

Once the switch-hitting Lowrie returns he is expected to become the team’s primary third baseman, with slumping Todd Frazier coming off the bench. Frazier will still receive occasional starts at third base and first base, according to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen.

Anthony Kay has shined for Double-A Binghamton, pitching to a 1.47 ERA in seven starts this season. The left-hander — a Stony Brook, L.I., native — was a supplemental first-round draft pick by the Mets in 2016.

A scout who recently watched the 24-year-old Kay predicated the UConn product will join the Mets’ rotation at some point this season.
