Margot Robbie transforms into Barbie, rides in pink convertible for film

She’s a Barbie girl in a Barbie world.

The highly anticipated live-action film will be unboxed at movie theaters July 2023 with Margot Robbie playing the iconic doll alongside a star-studded cast, reports Variety.

In a 2021 interview, the 31-year-old Aussie actress said that taking on a live adaptation “comes with a lot of baggage . . . and a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it.”

“People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t.’ ”

Warner Bros. shared the first look of the new film by the “Little Women” director through a tweet during a presentation at Las Vegas CinemaCon on Tuesday.

The cast includes a bunch of A-listers including Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell and several others.

Production on the film began in early 2022. The movie was co-written by Gerwig, who is famous for projects such as “Lady Bird,” and Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story”), with the film being directed by Gerwig.

“Barbie” is currently one of several live-action adaptations of the Mattel toy brand. Other upcoming projects will be inspired by Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket, the Magic 8 Ball and Rock’Em Sock’Em Robots, among others.

Barbie and her hot-pink convertible are set to roll into theaters on July 21, 2023.
