Luciano Sanchez suffers one of the most gruesome injuries you’ll see

An Argentina soccer match took a horrifying turn in the 56th minute on Tuesday.

Argentinos defender Luciano Sanchez fell to the pitch screaming in agony after Fluminense left-back Marcelo accidentally stomped Sanchez’s shin, buckling his leg beneath him at an almost unwatchable angle.

While spectators thought Sanchez, 29, suffered a broken leg, a medical report published by Argentinos said it was a full dislocation of his left knee, according to AP News.

Sanchez’s club said he was transported to the nearby Finochietto Sanatorium to receive treatment and medical updates would eventually be provided, according to CNN.

Sanchez’s recovery time is estimated between eight and 12 months, local media reported.

Brian Whittington, a doctor of physical therapy, speculated about Sanchez’s injury on Twitter, suggesting some extreme measures could have to be taken.

“Knee dislocation with likely multiple ligaments and cartilage torn. Concern with these injuries is a popliteal artery tear in the back of the knee,” Whittington wrote.

“If not caught quickly & fixed could lead to amputation. A devastating injury.”

Marcelo, 35, was left in tears after the incident at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium and posted on Instagram on Tuesday to express his sorrow and support for Sanchez.

“Today I had a very difficult moment on the pitch,” Marcelo wrote.

“I unintentionally injured a fellow player. I want to wish him the best possible recovery. All the strength in the world.”

Fluminense also posted a message on Twitter following the gruesome injury.

“Fluminense FC expresses its solidarity and wishes a speedy recovery to Argentinos Juniors defender Luciano Sanchez, who was injured in an accidental move in tonight’s match,” it read.

The game, which was the first of the round of 16 in Copa Libertadores, ended in a 1-1 draw.

The two teams will meet again next Tuesday to compete for slotting in the quarterfinals.
