‘Home Alone’ house snatched up after just 1 week on the market

The iconic “Home Alone” house has already found a buyer just one week after hitting the market.

Listed for $5.25 million, this legendary Winnetka, Illinois property, located in the Chicago suburbs, has left potential buyers saying, “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!”

The final sale price and the identity of the new owner aren’t yet available.

While fans of the movie might be surprised by the quick sale of the home, which made star appearances on screen, real estate experts aren’t.

The 9,126-square-foot stunner, represented by Coldwell Banker Realty’s Dawn McKenna Group, is located in a highly coveted community known for its top-notch schools, beaches, lush parks, and charming downtown filled with trendy shops and eateries.

Real estate pro Cara Ameer, who tied the knot in the neighborhood, isn’t shocked by the quick sale.

“It’s a fantastic area,” Ameer told SF Gate. “Plus, the house’s celebrity status only boosts its appeal. It’s priced right for its size and condition, and its movie fame makes it a landmark.”

However, inside, you won’t find much resemblance to the house where Kevin McCallister fended off the Wet Bandits.

A major renovation in 2018 transformed it into a modern marvel, complete with a gourmet kitchen, a second family room, an in-home basketball court and a state-of-the-art movie theater.

This is only the second time the famous abode, nestled on a half-acre at 671 Lincoln Ave., has been on the market since it debuted in John Hughes’ beloved holiday classic.

Back in 2012, it sold for $1.58 million — quite the bargain compared to its $2.4 million asking price.

The home is no longer under “contingent” status and is now pending, which means the seller had accepted an offer — but the sale hinged on certain conditions being met, such as home inspections, attorney review, financing, appraisal and a title search.
