Law enforcement initially reached a house near Dixon after a family member called about a relative threatening suicide and homicide, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office said during a press conference.

After authorities failed to make contact with the man inside the house, deputies entered and were immediately met with gunfire, sheriff Brian VanVickle said.

Three deputies were shot and rushed to local hospitals, and the suspect was also shot during the incident, authorities said.

Everyone involved was in “good condition,” authorities said, but more information was not provided.

Emergency and police vehicles and a pair of medical helicopters converged on the Lost Lake community during the situation that the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office called a “critical incident.”

The sheriff said his office has requested Illinois State Police probe the officer-involved shooting.
