Ex-NFL player Daniel Muir arrested after missing son — who’d allegedly been abused — is found safe
Former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Daniel Muir and his wife have been arrested after their missing 14-year-old son was found safe Wednesday — two weeks after cops started probing abuse allegations.
Bryson Muir was located “safe and well” when Indiana State Police SWAT teams raided the Muir family home in Logansport, north of Indianapolis, at about 6 a.m., cops said.
His parents, Daniel and Kristin Muir, were both taken into custody on obstruction of justice charges.
The teen’s father, a one-time defensive lineman, is also facing a domestic battery charge, police said.
Bryson, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs approximately 185 pounds, hadn’t been seen since June 16 after his grandmother, Cheryl Wright, alerted cops that the teen had allegedly been abused by his dad.
The grandmother tipped police off after noticing the teen had a swollen black eye.
The boy was last seen with his mom as she drove him away from the grandmother’s home in Cleveland, Ohio, that day.
“His face was battered. When I got him he had a black eye and busted lip,” Wright told FOX 59.
“His whole face was swollen. I can only imagine how many times he had been hit in the face for it to be like that.”
Local cops tracked down Kristin Muir’s car soon after receiving the report, but the teen was nowhere to be found.
Investigators were working on the theory that Bryson had been switched into another vehicle.
Despite visiting the Muir family home several times over the following days, cops said they were unable to make contact with Bryson’s parents.
Authorities issued a “Silver Alert” last Friday after the Muirs told cops they’d bring Bryson to Indianapolis State Police headquarters to meet with detectives and prove he was OK — but backed out of the arrangement just an hour before.
The raid was carried out after the Muirs failed to show up at court on Tuesday after warrants were issued for them.
The family lives on land owned by the Straitway Truth Ministries, a religious sect based in Tennessee that some have described as a cult.
Bryson’s grandmother has since alleged the teen may have been “brainwashed” by his parents.
“Bryson is so conditioned or brainwashed to their way of living that he wanted to go back,” Wright said.
