Klay Thompson pens emotional Warriors goodbye after Mavericks move

Klay Thompson has officially said goodbye to the Warriors after 13 seasons.

Thompson is joining the Mavericks as part of a sign-and-trade on a 3-year, $50 million deal

The 34-year-old shared an emotional post on Instagram addressed to Warriors fans Friday.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from Day 1,” the post read. “The best part was not the rings … it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime.”

The Warriors did not provide Thompson a counteroffer this season, but have expressed that they will retire his No. 11 when he retires from the game.

“Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out,” Thompson concluded the post.

He now joins a Mavericks team with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving that lost the NBA Finals to the Celtics.
