Here’s how a new mom transformed her sleep deprivation into a booming business

Living in the picturesque Northern Beaches of Sydney, Hannah Miller was no stranger to the exhausting realities of new motherhood.

While struggling with sleep deprivation, she stumbled upon an idea that would not only change her life but also improve the sleep of thousands of others struggling with similar issues.

Armed with her background in digital marketing, Hannah identified a gap in the market for a “one-stop shop for sleep solutions.”

What started as a side hustle quickly turned into a full-fledged business, Hannah told Kidspot

“The online store was initially my testing ground to experiment with new concepts before applying them in my corporate role. However, after seeing a genuine need for these kinds of products, I decided to take the leap and turn it into a full-fledged business.”

And so, with only $500 [$338 USD] and “a big cup of coffee,” Sleep Dreams was born.

‘Customer feedback is crucial’

Sleep Dreams isn’t your standard sleep accessories shop. The brand has grown to offer an extensive range of products that tackle various sleep issues like tinnitus, anxiety, and restless legs.

It also caters to people dealing with jet lag, menopause insomnia, snoring partners, shift work, pregnancy and, of course, the joys of having a newborn.

“Customer feedback is crucial in our product development and selection process,” Hannah shared.

The cult sleep products

One of their products, the SleepSoftly™ Deluxe Bluetooth Sleep Headphones, $68.99 [$47 USD], has proved to be a massive hit with shoppers.

Designed with ultra-thin built-in speakers, these headphones are said to be a game changer for blocking out sound and improving sleep quality.

The sleep mask easily pairs with any Bluetooth-enabled device, so you can fall asleep with your favourite sleep music or meditation, whether that’s on Spotify, Calm or another platform.

“They’ve received an amazing response from customers, earning an average rating of 4.4 stars,” said Hannah.

And the rave reviews speak for themselves. One customer shared, “This sleep mask is the BEST! It’s really comfortable and I can’t feel the speakers on my side. It was also easy to pair with my phone and the sound is great and easy to adjust. The mask is superior quality and I know will last, plus I am experiencing deeper lasting sleep.”

Another review said: “Sheer bliss, I suffer from severe high-pitched tinnitus, and I am now falling asleep within minutes.”

“After seeing a genuine need for these kinds of products, I decided to take the leap and turn it into a full-fledged business,” Miller said. News.com.au

And this satisfied customer added, “I cannot believe how much I love this sleep mask. It feels luxurious and the speakers are so thin. Highly recommend.”

Besides the sleep headphones, Hannah says the 100% Mulberry Silk hair bonnets have also become popular.

“Customers love them for the thick headband and the softness of the silk. We initially offered them in black, but after introducing pink, blue, and green options, we’ve consistently run low on stock of the pink color due to its high demand,” Hannah shared.
