The Beachwaver rotating curler is the only waver I use — here’s why

At the age of 15, I began getting Brazilian Blowouts. All I wanted was for my frizzy hair to be sleek and smooth.

Soon enough, I dyed my locks turquoise blue — because Kylie Jenner had done it, so I just had to follow suit.

Then, I chopped it all off and opted for some shaggy bangs.

While each hair decision wasn’t necessarily in my style’s best interest (I’m looking at you, mini bob), I’ll try anything at least once. Because in the wise words of Taylor Swift, “If you don’t look back at pictures of some of your old looks and cringe, you’re doing it wrong.”

So when I saw the Beachwaver Curling iron on my TikTok For You page, I knew I had to get my hands on it. And boy oh boy was it good.

What the Beachwaver does

The Beachwaver Curling Iron (prices vary) aims to create loose, effortless waves for all hair types. Supposedly, all you need to do is press a directional button, watch the curler rotate and release to reveal a gorgeous curl.

It seemed too good to be true, but people all over TikTok had managed to achieve the look — so I secured the bag and decided to put it to the test.

How to choose a Beachwaver

If you navigate to the Beachwaver site, you’ll see an array of hair tools and products — and a total of 21 various curlers ranging from .75-inch to 1.25-inch barrel sizes. Not to mention, each curler comes in an array of designs, patterns and colors.

While selecting a curler has never been more personalized, choosing your ideal Beachwaver can quickly become overwhelming. Therefore, I utilized the brand’s “Find My Wave” hair quiz.

Since I wanted medium, beachy waves for my long hair, Beachwaver Co. suggested I opt for the S1 curling iron — so I snagged the Floral Beachwaver S1 Rotating Curling Iron in Sage Sky ($149).

How to use the Beachwaver

After eagerly awaiting my gorgeous Beachwaver curling iron, it arrived at my doorstep.

It was even prettier in person, featuring a nine-foot swivel cord, ergonomic handle, adjustable speed switch and a heat level of 410 degrees Fahrenheit.

Now comes the fun part.

I plugged the device in and waited for the Beachwaver to quickly heat up. As I stood by, I spritzed my mane with Beachwaver’s Great Barrier Heat Protectant Hair Spray ($28) and doused my roots in the brand’s Second Chance Dry Shampoo ($28).

I was ready for action and took the curler to my hair.

I separated a one-inch section of hair and clamped the curler down at the end of my strands. I then clicked the directional button that would allow my curls to rotate away from my face. I held the curl for about five seconds and then released.

Right before my eyes was a beautiful, effortless wave. I repeated until complete, and in about 15 minutes, I looked like an ocean mermaid princess (if I don’t say so myself). I was hooked.

Now, I will say there is a learning curve.

Knowing exactly where to clamp down on your strands, how long to hold the curl, which way you want the waves to spin and more all depends on your individual hair and your desired style.

I will say, though, my Beachwaver style has only gotten better with each use, and I won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
