Dr. Keith Ablow is putting comedians on the couch and analyzing the psychological roots of their comic genius for the “Stand Up Lie Down” podcast with comic Joe Matarese.
Joe Piscopo had trouble being a “patient” and Ablow had to press him.
“Look, I have been trying to make people happier my whole life. I feel a lot more comfortable helping than being helped,” Piscopo said. “I’ll get over it — after a few terms as governor of New Jersey, maybe.”
Ablow was also able to get Steve Rannazzisi to talk about why he lied about being in the Twin Towers on 9/11. “I found him incredibly human and open to digging up the psychological issues that fueled that lack of judgment,” Ablow told me.
Other “patients” include Mark Normand, Cory Kahaney and “Family Guy” producer and voice actor John Viener.
