Busy Philipps’ 12-year-old, Birdie, lands non-binary acting role

Busy Philipps’ eldest, Birdie, will soon hit the small screen.

The 12-year-old has landed a non-binary role on Amazon’s upcoming series “With Love,” the show’s creator Gloria Calderón Kellett announced on Thursday.

“I first met Birdie when they were a baby. It is thrilling that I now get to have them on my little show. #WithLoveTV @PrimeVideo @BusyPhilipps,” Kellett tweeted. Proud mom Busy re-tweeted the post, adding, “This just made me cry.”

Philipps opened up about Birdie being non-binary for the first time this year on her podcast, “Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best,” which prompted a conversation with her own mother about the modern use of pronouns.

“My mom is older and wants to understand the pronoun conversation more,” the “Dawson’s Creek” alum told Health Magazine back in May. “There are some really good books out there — like ‘What’s Your Pronoun? Beyond He & She’ by Dennis Baron.”

“I said to my mother, ‘Here’s the deal: You don’t have to understand it,’” she continued. “That’s how I feel about all human rights — you don’t have to understand it. You can choose to believe what you want, but you don’t get to have jurisdiction over anyone else’s body or belief system.”

Phillips revealed in January that Birdie is gay and prefers “they/them” pronouns.
