The body of a missing 12-year-old girl with autism has been found after police say she drowned in a lake near her Texas home.

Aisha Adebayo was last seen walking away from her house on a security camera on the night of Wednesday, June 26, in the 29800 block of Aaron River Trail, the Fulshear Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Police continued to provide updates in their Facebook post as the search for the girl continued into the next morning. They even asked neighbors to check video cameras for any signs of her.

The girl's parents said it was just before 9 p.m. local time when they realized their daughter, who was non-verbal, wasn't home, according to ABC affiliate KHOU. They then immediately called the police.

FPD Capt. Mike McCoy told KHOU that helicopters, K-9 units and community members also helped in the pursuit.

"You would’ve been amazed to see all the flashlights and cars driving back and forth, we literally had hundreds and hundreds of eyes helping us out so it was just heart-rendering," he said.

But around 5:45 a.m. local time on Thursday, June 27, the department updated their post to share the sad news that Aisha was found dead.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Aisha drowned, police said. An investigation remains ongoing.
