All 4 Members of ABBA Reunite for Swedish Knighthood Ceremony

ABBA fans, rejoice!

On Friday, May 31, all four members of ABBA — Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Björn Ulvaeus — reunited in Stockholm to receive a prestigious Swedish knighthood from King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, according to the Associated Press.

Andersson, 77, Fältskog, 74, Lyngstad, 78, and Ulvaeus, 79, received the Royal Order of Vasa and are now Commanders of First Class for “very outstanding efforts in Swedish and international music life," per the outlet.

Variety reported that the knighthood awarded to ABBA was revived in 2022 after it was discontinued in 1975 for “ordinary Swedish citizens,” making the band members the first to receive the Order of Vasa in almost 50 years.

Foreigners did receive the award in the meantime, however, according to The Guardian.

Among the 13 people also knighted on Friday alongside ABBA were two 2023 Nobel Prize-winning physicists. 

ABBA formed in the 1970s, with its members famously coupling up — and eventually breaking up.

They reached international fame in 1974, when they won the Eurovision Song Contest for their hit song “Waterloo.”

Other major hits from the group include "Mamma Mia," "Dancing Queen" and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"

ABBA went on hiatus in 1982, and they previously reunited in 2021 to work on the album Voyage and for the premiere of their virtual concert series in 2022.

Throughout their tenure, ABBA has been nominated for five Grammys. Their music became the basis for the 1999 musical Mamma Mia, along with its two film adaptations.
