Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega Summon Michael Keaton Back in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Trailer

Michael Keaton makes his return to the role of Beetlejuice in director Tim Burton’s sequel, in theaters Sept. 6

The juice is loose — again.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brings Michael Keaton back as the iconically ghastly poltergeist in a decades-in-the-making sequel that reunites him with visionary director Tim Burton and costars Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara

In the latest trailer, Ryder’s Lydia Deetz and her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) summon the nefarious entity just as Lydia did in 1988’s Beetlejuice when Lydia begins to explain her connection to the ghostly being.

When Astrid asks her mother who Beetlejuice is, Lydia begs her not to say his name — leading Astrid to shout the fateful incantation: “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!” and summon the character.

Per a synopsis, “an unexpected family tragedy” brings “three generations of the Deetz family” back to Winter River, Connecticut, where Beetlejuice was last awakened. It’s Lydia who “discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened."

"With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem," the synopsis adds.

"She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume,” Ortega, 21, told Vanity Fair of her character Astrid in February. “I wouldn’t say she’s bright and sunny at all."

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, co-written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, welcomes new cast members Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti and Willem Dafoe.

Also glimpsed in the trailer is O’Hara, 70, returning as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. She and Beetlejuice share “a little two-person moment,” the actress told PEOPLE in January. “It was just so crazy and thrilling, really to just be face-to-face with Beetlejuice,” she said, joking, “Beetlejuice has aged very well.”

Keaton told PEOPLE in February that his work on the sequel was “the most fun I've had on set in a long time.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in theaters Sept. 6.
