'F1' is in theaters June 27, 2025

Brad Pitt gets behind the wheel for his latest film.

The first trailer for the film F1 debuted during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix on Sunday, July 7.

In it, Pitt, 60, stars as a former driver “who returns to Formula 1 at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid," per a synopsis. The Oscar winner stars alongside Damson Idris, who plays his teammate, as they “compete against the titans of the sport” during the Grand Prix.

F1 was filmed during this year’s Grand Prix races, which began in March, and the film will also feature 10 Formula 1 teams and their drivers.

Along with Pitt and Idris, the cast also includes Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.

The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed 2022's Top Gun: Maverick, which starred Tom Cruise. Kosinski will also produce the film alongside Pitt, Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton also produced the movie under his film and TV production company Dawn Apollo Films.

In an interview with GQ back in April, Hamilton, 39, revealed that he is a massive Top Gun fan and asked Cruise to be a part of Top Gun 2 when they met back in 2014.

“I said, ‘Dude, if you ever do Top Gun 2…  ‘I will even be a janitor — just let me be in it,’ ” he said in the interview. When Top Gun: Maverick began filming in 2018, Hamilton was offered a role as one of the pilots in the film but was unable to due to scheduling issues.

“Firstly, I hadn’t even had, like, an acting lesson,” he said. “And I don’t want to be the one that lets this movie down. Then, secondly, I just really didn’t have the time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell Joe and Tom — and it broke my heart. And then I regretted it, naturally, when they showed me the movie and it’s: 'It could’ve been me!' ”

F1 is in theaters and IMAX June 27, 2025.
