There is such a thing as fate ... and in 1998, it brought together dozens of the biggest '90s-era stars for the premiere of the teen comedy, Can't Hardly Wait.

The film followed a group of high school seniors celebrating their graduation at an epic end-of-the-year blowout, and starred icons of the time like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ethan Embry.

"We wanted to make an energetic, funny movie," co-director Harry Elfont told Teen PEOPLE during a set visit in 1998. "Every high school movie has a party scene, but there's never been ..."

"... a movie that takes place entirely at a party," added his directing partner, Deborah Kaplan.

The film's Hollywood premiere was also a party, and brought out some of the biggest names of the '90s in addition to the starry cast. Here, take a trip down memory lane at the premiere of 1998's Can't Hardly Wait.

On the flip side, "the studio wasn't completely convinced I could pull it off at first," Ethan Embry (here with Heather Picardo) told Teen PEOPLE of playing Preston. "[He's] the straightforward guy that I usually don't play." That only made the actor want the part more, though, and in the end, Elfont told PEOPLE that his audition "blew us away."
