Kirsten Dunst is fighting for her life in Civil War.

The Oscar-nominated actress leads a star-studded cast in the first trailer for the A24 film.

Written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men), Civil War follows a group of people in a "race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge."

The cast includes Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman, as well as Dunst's real-life husband Jesse Plemons.

The heart-pounding trailer features Offerman, 53, as the president of the United States, addressing the "citizens of America" about the war.

"The so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very grave defeat at the hands of the United States military," he says, before a series of scenes show people apparently running for their lives through New York City and elsewhere.

In a tense stand-off scene, the characters played by Dunst, 41, Spaeny, 35, and Moura, 47, are ambushed by a group led by Plemons' character.

"We're American, okay?" Moura tells him.

"Okay. What kind of American are you?" asks Plemons, 35, adding with a laugh before raising his gun, "You don't know?"

Dunst previously opened up about her love of working with Plemons, whom she married in 2022 after six years together. The couple share two sons: Ennis, 5, and James, 2.

Notably, Dunst and Plemons played a married couple in the 2021 drama Power of the Dog, which earned them both their first Oscar nominations.

"We actually talked to [Power of the Dog producer] Tanya Seghatchian about what Jesse and I should do next. We have some ideas, and Jesse and I definitely want to do another project," Dunst told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2021.

She added of her longtime partner, "He's my favorite actor to work with."
