Valerie Bertinelli and her boyfriend are red carpet official!
On June 7, the author of Indulge, who is nominated for two 2024 Daytime Emmys, walked the red carpet at the awards show hand-in-hand with her boyfriend, Mike Goodnough.
Goodnough told PEOPLE on the carpet that he was proud to be by his girlfriend's side.
"It feels great," he said. "I mean, there's very little better than seeing somebody you love get the recognition, get the roses."
The celebrity chef, 63, is nominated for outstanding culinary host for her work on her now-canceled Food Network series Valerie's Home Cooking. She's joined in the category by Lidia Bastianich, Emeril Lagasse, Eduardo Garcia, Sophia Roe and Buddy Valastro. Plus, her series has also been nominated for outstanding culinary series.
Goodnough, who goes by Hoarse Whisperer on social media, shared an Instagram post on Thursday, June 6, to talk about what it's like to be Bertinelli’s plus-one for the awards show.
In a video, which the writer claimed is his fifteenth take, he said he is “ecstatic” to “see my girlfriend get the roses.”
“Valerie poured her heart and soul into that show,” he said of Valerie's Home Cooking, adding that the nominations are a “deserved recognition” for Bertinelli’s work.
He added more details in the caption and wrote, “Tomorrow and Saturday, I get to be Valerie’s 'and guest' at the awards ceremony… and I’m going to be the happiest ‘+1’ in the place.”
Bertinelli's Daytime Emmy Awards nominations came on April 19th, almost exactly a year after the series was canceled in April 2023. At the time, the actress announced in an Instagram post that the 14th season of Valerie's Home Cooking would be its last and that she hoped Food Network "would change their minds" after they canceled the show the summer before.
In an interview with PEOPLE for her April 2024 cover story, Bertinelli said her feelings were hurt by the cancellation but, "I know it's business. I just really loved my job — loved, loved my job."
