Sean 'Diddy' Combs Would Wait Outside MTV's TRL to Try and Win Jennifer Lopez Back amid Alleged Abandonment Issues

Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly struggled to let go of his romances with women.

A new investigation from Rolling Stone on Tuesday, May 28 concluded that the hip-hop mogul, 54, often intimidated women who tried to "walk away" from their relationship, such as Jennifer Lopez and Cassie Ventura.

According to the outlet, former Bad Boy intern Damien Vasquez alleged that after Combs and the Hustlers star, now 54, broke up in 2001 after two years of dating, he had his employees "camp outside MTV’s TRL studios with signs to win her back."

Additionally, Cassie, now 37, claimed that the "I'll Be Missing You" performer's "network of operatives found her and implored her to return" and a Bad Boy executive "threatened to withhold the release of her music if she didn’t return," per the outlet.

A source who was familiar with the former couple's relationship told Rolling Stone that Combs allegedly tried to act like "a heartbroken, hurt man" after the model/singer left him, but he was really "a liar [and] abuser."

Ex Bad Boy president Kirk Burrowes said that Diddy's past — the murder of his father, especially — left the rapper with loss issues. "Abandonment and the act of leaving can bring about vicious results," he told Rolling Stone. "And the women catch it the worst."

Cassie and Combs dated on-and-off for nearly a decade, calling it quits for the last time in 2018.

In November 2023, the "Me & U" singer accused the Bad Boy Entertainment founder of raping and abusing her over the course of their relationship.

The documents, which were obtained by PEOPLE, said that Cassie first met Combs when she was 19 and he was 37, and he had just signed her to his label Bad Boy Records.

According to the complaint, she claimed that he soon had “complete control” over her life and when he pursued a relationship with her, she agreed because she worried about retaliation if she denied him.

On Wednesday, May 29, CNN reported that the U.S. Justice Department may be preparing to file an indictment against the "Last Night" rapper after he was named in eight civil lawsuits.

Sources told the network that federal investigators have reached out to Combs’ accusers, interviewed them and told them that they could be asked to testify in front of a federal grand jury in New York City.

Combs has denied all allegations, saying in a statement obtained by PEOPLE in December: "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy."

"Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth," he added.

Witness preparations have not yet started as the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agency is still in the process of gathering evidence against the musician so that a potential indictment against him would be "bulletproof," sources told CNN.

HSI and Combs’ representatives did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. The HSI told CNN in a statement that the investigation is ongoing.

Since November, at least six people have filed lawsuits claiming that Combs sexually assaulted or harassed them — with the latest lawsuit being filed on May 23. There were also sex trafficking allegations and claims that the rapper drugged individuals against their will these lawsuits.

Following surveillance video released by CNN on May 17 showing Diddy grabbing, shoving and kicking his ex-girlfriend singer Cassie during a 2016 altercation — which had been detailed in a prior lawsuit she brought forward against him — the musician released an apology video.

"I was f---ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video," he said on Instagram. He captioned the post, "I'm truly sorry."
