After learning a dog named Kygo has terminal cancer, Kygo the DJ — who the canine was named after — the musician made an effort to bring joy to the pet's final days.

The 7-year-old canine (a "big fluffy mutt," per his Instagram) garnered attention earlier this month after The Dogist, an account run by photographer Elias Weiss Friedman, shared his story; the post revealed that Kygo has terminal cancer and "doesn't have much longer."

"He has osteosarcoma – we've been doing radiation treatment around his eye. It spread to his lungs, and now he has pneumonia, too," his owner, Ashley McClain, said in Friedman's June 2 Instagram post about the pup, which garnered over 14,000 messages of support.

"I'm getting him out every day into the fresh air, trying to make him as happy as possible," she said, adding that the "only other thing I have left" is for the mutt to meet the musician he was named after.

After the post, Kygo — the DJ, not the dog — invited the beloved husky-Malamute-poodle-collie mix and McClain to meet him at Palm Tree Music Festival, which he co-founded, in Southampton, New York.

Touched by Kygo’s story, the 32-year-old Norwegian DJ and producer brought the canine and his owner backstage at the June 22 festival. Friedman continued the pup’s story by sharing footage from before, during, and after the emotional interaction.

Clad in shirts decorated with Kygo’s fuzzy face, McClain and Friedman arrived backstage, where the DJ emerged from a trailer and revealed that he had never met a dog with his name before.

The producer also said "like 200 people" sent him the original post about Kygo the dog, adding, "It was insane." He also formally joined "Kygo's Krew," donning one of the pup's special shirts to pose for photos together.

The Palm Tree co-founder also revealed that he wants a dog of his own down the line, telling the group that coming home to a four-legged friend is "just pure pleasure" — and revealed that he has never had a fan interaction like this one before.

"You made a very special dream come true," Friedman told the DJ, who responded in the comments, writing, "So great to meet you."

"It turns out, despite not growing up with dogs or having one at the moment, Kygo fully understood the importance of a dog and what they mean to their person," The Dogist founder wrote alongside the post, adding that the DJ made "Kygo the dog's second bucket list dream come true."

Also in the post, Friedman revealed that the Brady Hunter Foundation, a Florida non-profit "focused on our commitment to animals and children," donated $10,000 to McClain to alleviate Kygo's medical costs and $10,000 to the National Canine Cancer Foundation in the pup and owner's name.

In The Dogist's original post about Kygo, McClain told Friedman, "I've always said that if I have any purpose on earth, it's to bring Kygo to the world."

"He really changed my life in so many ways," she added.
