Emma Roberts Reveals the 'Extremely Difficult' Part About Dating Actors That Led to Her Past Breakups

Emma Roberts learned she can't date fellow actors. 

In an interview with Flaunt magazine, the 33-year-old Space Cadet star indicated that her current boyfriend, who she declined to name, is not a fellow performer. 

“One day the veil was lifted and I didn’t want to date actors anymore,” said Roberts. “It’s hard, I think, for two actors to be together. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen it done successfully.”

Roberts shares her 3-year-old son Rhodes with Tron: Legacy actor Garrett Hedlund, whom she officially split from in January 2022. Previously, she dated her American Horror Story costar Evan Peters on and off from 2012 until 2019. She's most recently been dating boyfriend Cody John.

“The actors I’ve been with border on Method actors, and that is something that I think is extremely difficult to be in a relationship with — at least for me, especially the characters that they were playing,” explained Roberts in her interview, conducted from the home outside New York City she shares with her mother Kelly Cunningham.

She added that her new beau is not “online," which she enjoys. Her advice for bachelors: “If you want to send a girl crazy, don’t have Instagram.”

The actress also opened up about the pressures of living life in the spotlight. “Sometimes when you leave the house there is a sense of paranoia like, 'Is someone taking my picture? Is someone taking a video of me?' ” she said. “If they’re doing it, that sucks. But if they’re not doing it and I think they’re doing it, that also sucks. It’s kind of like a lose-lose.”

Roberts previously reflected on seeing massive fame “up close” thanks to spending time on sets as a child with aunt Julia Roberts.

"Fame has never been the goal, because fame at a certain level is kind of scary,” she said in June on iHeartPodcasts' Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi. “When you've seen fame like that up close and you see what that really does to people [and] their families."

Roberts leads and executive produces the comedy Space Cadet, which costars Poppy Liu, Tom Hopper, and Gabrielle Union and is on Prime Video July 4. In June, the Belletrist founder launched a campaign with Italian makeup brand Kiko Milano to create a community between beauty and book lovers.
