How Mindy Kaling Kept Her Third Pregnancy a Secret

Following the surprising news that Mindy Kaling quietly welcomed her third baby earlier this year, fans were left speculating how the actress kept her pregnancy hidden for nine months.

While The Office alum often keeps her two other kids — daughter Katherine "Kit," 6, and son Spencer, 3 — off social media, many were impressed that Kaling seemingly gave no impressions that she was expecting her third baby.

"How does one have three whole children without being seen in public pregnant 🤰 😳 🤔," one person wrote on Kaling's Instagram.

"Queen of secretly giving birth 💕," another said.

Kaling, who announced on Instagram on Monday, June 24 that she welcomed her daughter Anne in late February, shared many photos on her Instagram over the last 14 months, never once revealing that she was expecting.

Last June, Kaling shared photos from her swimsuit campaign with Andie Swim, posing in a yellow one-piece in the ocean and later in a two-piece in a swimming pool.

Later that summer, the Never Have I Ever creator posted pictures from her trip to Las Vegas, wearing a pink printed mini dress and white sandals.

"Vegas pt. 2 👯‍♀️🍾❤️ @wynnlasvegas," she captioned the post, smiling and holding her arms open wide.

In September, Kaling shared photos of herself wearing tight leather pants and a leather blazer on her social media, posing from various angles. The star accessorized with long earrings and a wavy ring, smiling in the pictures as she attended a Ralph Lauren fashion show.

"🖤Thanks for having me @ralphlauren 🖤," she wrote.

Later that same week, Kaling wore a tight leather skirt and a lacy black tank top as she ended fashion week with a Veronica Beard event.

Further into fall, Kaling opted for baggy sweaters and sweatshirts, wearing a Halloween-inspired ghost sweater at the end of October in a post on her Instagram and a distressed green sweater with stars all over it in November.

In December, the actress posted a Reel of a day in her life, which included waking up, walking on a treadmill in a baggy gray sweatshirt and heading into work, wearing an oversized cardigan with yin-yang symbols across the top.

In early February, the same month Kaling gave birth, the comedian shared photos on her Instagram of a Zoom call she had while writing her new TV series, Running Point.

The star could be seen sitting in bed in the three photos, propped up against a few pillows as they worked in their virtual writer's room. "Never has anyone been more sedentary writing a show about the fast-paced and sexy world of basketball! 🏀💻🖋️," Kaling joked.

In late March, after Kaling welcomed daughter Anne, the comedian shared a photo on her Instagram wearing jean shorts and only a bra top, accessorizing with a blazer.

"This is one of those looks that would be best photographed with no bra but it was just a 'I’m not taking my bra off' day. Also: never worn Bermuda length shorts? What do you think?" Kaling wrote in her caption.

From March until Tuesday, June 25, Kaling did not share any photos of her kids on Instagram, instead posting photos of herself at work and the Met Gala in May.

This past week, Kaling announced she'd welcomed her third baby by posting a photo of all three of her kids in her backyard, as well as a photo of herself and her two older kids in the hospital.

"In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne. She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined," Kaling, who has never revealed the identity of the father of her children, captioned the post.

"When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life. I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!"
