Jennifer Lawrence’s Breezy Button-Up Shirt Is a Versatile Style for Vacation and Beyond — Get One from $24

My friends and I talked about everything on our recent vacation across the pond: Our jobs, our recent favorite TV shows, and, of course, Jennifer Lawrence’s style. 

So when I logged on bright and early on Monday morning, I was a bit peeved to see one of The Hunger Games star’s ’fits — and not for the reason you might think. She still made my spidey style senses tingle with excitement, but naturally, she was wearing the one thing I desperately wished I had brought on vacation with me: a long-sleeve button-up shirt. 

She paired the white hero piece with some loose bottoms in the same color, plus some colorful ballet flats that meshed with the white-on-white look. She also added some shades and a spacious purse. 

I am many things, but a light packer is not one of them. Because of this, I always have to take a few items out of my suitcase before heading out the door — and my button-up shirt, which was packed and ready to go, was discarded, and I have no idea why. 

They don’t take up much space in a suitcase and can easily be layered over tank tops and tees, or worn as their own pièce de résistance. Plus, everyone abroad was wearing them and it, inevitably, would have fared well for those chilly, gloomy days turned sunny and hot.

Caslon Relaxed Cotton Gauze Button-Up Shirt

I always feel like there’s a few misconceptions about button-ups. But the truth is, they don’t have to be stuffy, expensive, or overly preppy-looking. This Caslon one at Nordstrom Rack, which comes in sizes S to XL, is made from cotton for tip-top airflow, and it looks less starchy than a heavyweight Oxford shirt. Consider leaving a few buttons open, like Lawrence, for a bigger breeze.

While abroad, I didn’t feel out of place in my Bermuda shorts or billowy skirts, but I did notice that breezy trousers and pants seemed to be the most popular type of bottoms. Heck, I was even on the hunt for another pair while I was there. And these ones from Chartou also look like Meghan Markle’s and Jessica Alba’s, and they’re gaining popularity, as more than 1,000 customers nabbed them last month.

Like Lawrence, I’m also all over ballet flats and big bags — and I wore both on repeat while abroad. Despite walking anywhere from 13,000 to 24,000 steps a day, I still found myself preferring the former over sneakers, while my large carryall was filled with snacks, chargers, and tour guides for a day trip outside of the city.
