Katie Holmes’ Chill Midi Dress Outfit Is the Blueprint for Hot Days Ahead — Shop the Look from $10

New York City got a taste of summer weather this week, and everyone was eager to shake off their long sleeves and enjoy the brief treat of an 80-degree afternoon — including Katie Holmes.

Holmes was spotted strolling the city streets in a midi-length slip dress with a red camisole underneath, and a pair of navy T-strap Mary Janes. The outfit is simple and smart for the city, with flat shoes for walking and a dress silhouette that makes for easy movement, but it still managed to give me some inspiration. The colorful tank top under the slip dress is a great way to add a little pop to a summer outfit, especially for someone whose wardrobe leans monochromatic.

The Drop Ana Silky Midi Slip Dress

Just like Holmes’ dress, this style from Amazon’s in-house brand The Drop has a V-neck, spaghetti straps, and midi length. It also has side slits for easy movement, and the straps are adjustable, so you won’t be fussing with them falling down or riding up. 

The lightweight dress comes in 26 colors and prints, including classic black to recreate Holmes’ look. It’s available in sizes XXS–5X and has earned more than 1,100 five-star ratings from shoppers. 

Natural Uniforms Cotton Camisole

Under the V-neck slip dress, Holmes wore a scoop-neck tank top in a dark red shade. The pop-of-color cami only peaks out a bit, but it’s enough to add a little visual interest to the outfit, and a layering move I’ll be copying. Flats are back: Ballet styles and Mary Jane shoes have been seen on everyone from Meghan Markle to Jennifer Lawrence. Holmes’ pair has a T-strap that makes them stand out from the pack, and we found a similar style at Amazon.
