Lily Collins Reveals Dad Phil Collins Wrote Hit Song 'You'll Be in My Heart' as a Lullaby for Her

"It was so special," Lily Collins told Harry Connick Jr. of her dad's Tarzan hit, "You'll Be in My Heart"

Bedtime at Lily Collins‘ house had an Oscar-winning soundtrack.

The Rules Don’t Apply actress told Harry Connick Jr. on his talk show on Tuesday that one of her pop star father Phil Collins‘ most recognizable songs was originally written as a lullaby for her.

” ‘You’ll Be in My Heart,’ from Tarzan,” she revealed, adding, “We grew up watching Disney shows and movies together, so that was his way of kind of being able to do it for his kids. It was so special.”

Phil composed the soundtrack to the 1999 Disney animated film, which went on to win a Grammy for best soundtrack album. “You’ll Be in My Heart” nabbed the Oscar for Best Original Song, as well as the Golden Globe for the same honor.

Lily, whose mother is Phil’s ex Jill Tavelman, has now become a star in her own right, but admitted that it was strange to have a famous father as a child.

“It’s a weird thing to have your dad or your parent be on the stage with a million people saying their name and you’re like, ‘No, that’s just dad,’ ” Lily, 27, said. “But I started to get used to, that person was Phil and then when we were home, that was dad.”

There’s been a bit of a role reversal as of late though — Lily is now the one getting recognized.

“It’s really funny, he told me he got a kick out of the fact there was a radio station playing his music and they said afterwards, ‘For those of you who don’t know who that is, that’s Lily Collins’ dad,’ ” she told Connick. “And he was like, ‘What world are we living in? This is great. You’re like getting up there.’ “
