Olivia Henson Battles the Wind (in an Heirloom Tiara!) at Her High Society Wedding Attended by Royal Family

Olivia Henson married Hugh Grosvenor, the 7th Duke of Westminster, in a romantic ceremony attended by Prince William

The new Duchess of Westminster has a bridal look straight out of a storybook — despite battling some windy weather!

Olivia Henson married Hugh Grosvenor, the 7th Duke of Westminster, on June 7 at Chester Cathedral in Britain's high-society wedding of the year. As seen in a video shared on social media by royal reporter Cameron Walker, the bride was all smiles upon arrival, even as high winds blew around her dress and veil on her way into the church on the arm of her father, Rupert Henson.

The bride topped off her wedding day outfit with the ultimate accessory: a tiara. The Faberge Myrtle Leaf Tiara was made for Grosvenor brides to wear on their wedding day and has been in the Grosvenor family since its creation in 1906 when it was commissioned for the wedding of Lord Hugh Grosvenor and Lady Mabel Crichton, according to The Court Jeweller.

Although Hugh's mother, Natalia, opted for a different tiara at her wedding, Hugh's sister Lady Tamara sported the same family heirloom accessory when she wed Edward van Cutsem in 2004.

For her big day, the bride wore a wedding dress and veil by British bridal designer Emma Victoria Payne.

The ivory silk crepe satin, ivory silk organza gown with a scalloped edge neckline was decorated with bespoke embroidered detailing that was also featured on her veil. The embroidery was hand-drawn by Payne, incorporating floral motifs and edgings that adorned Olivia’s great-great-grandmother’s veil from around 1880. Behind the dress was a 6-foot train.

The wedding dress has a sleek silhouette of bias cut skirt, pleated waistband, gathered sleeves, wide embroidered silk organza cuffs with a scalloped edge repeat motif and button detailing while its back features a dropped waist, "keyhole back and scalloped edging embroidery embellishments fastening with rouleau loops," a press release from the couple explained. "It features a detachable 2m silk crepe satin train with a paneled construction."

As well as the hand-drawn delicate floral motifs with foliage and scrolls on her veil, there was another personal touch: her initials and the wedding date are incorporated.

The bride appeared to use her shoes as her "something blue," sporting statement heels in the hue.

Olivia carried a bouquet picked from the gardens of Eaton Hall, the Grosvenor family’s estate. Flowers included meadow grass, ox-eye daisies, iris, rose, clematis, mock orange, scabious, sweet pea, astrantia, martagon lily and love in a mist.

The bride traveled to the church ceremony in a vintage Bentley driven by her father. The car, provided by the Heritage Collection of Bentley Motors in Crewe, was originally made for W.O. Bentley, the founder of Bentley Motors, in 1930.

Hugh, 33, and Olivia, 31, announced their engagement in April 2023, and their nuptials were described as "the most royal non-royal wedding of the year" by The Times. Prince William, a close friend of the groom's, acted as an usher for the ceremony, and Princess Eugenie was also a guest.

But the royal connections don't end there. Hugh is also a godson of King Charles and a godfather to Prince William and Kate Middleton's 10-year-old son, Prince George, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 5-year-old son, Prince Archie, 5.

Prince William and Prince Harry served as ushers at the wedding of Hugh's sister Lady Tamara to Edward van Cutsem in 2004. The celebration at Chester Cathedral was attended by their grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The groom's mother is also a godmother to Prince William, 41.

Hugh, who became the Duke of Westminster when his father died in 2016, was long considered to be one of Britain's most eligible bachelors before getting engaged, with his family's estimated net worth of $12.8 billion making him the richest person in the U.K. under age 40 and the 14th wealthiest overall, according to The Sunday Times' Rich List 2024.

Olivia grew up in London and Oxfordshire and attended Marlborough College (Princess Kate's alma mater!) and Trinity College Dublin. She built a career in the sustainable food sector, most recently working at artisanal food company Belazu.
