Laverne Cox reunited with former Orange Is the New Black costars Danielle Brooks and Uzo Aduba at the 2024 SAG Awards.

Cox, 51, who co-hosted E!’s red carpet show Saturday, first interviewed two-time nominee Brooks, 34, a star of The Color Purple. The two both starred on Netflix’s prison series from 2013 to 2019 along with Aduba, 43.

In Orange, Cox played Sophia Burset, a prisoner who worked in the salon at the fictional Litchfield Penitentiary. Brooks played Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson, an outspoken inmate. Aduba was a breakout as Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren.

On the red carpet, Cox introduced Brooks to viewers as “my friend, my sister.”

“We are here. This makes me emotional because every time I’ve been here, it’s been with you in Orange Is the New Black, so now this moment, it means a lot,” Brooks replied.

The red carpet host praised her former costar, who has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing Sofia in The Color Purple. “I’m so proud of you, Dani. I’m so happy for you.”

“Our Orange Is the New Black fans are hardcore, and we had the pleasure of winning SAG Awards here as a cast many times,” continued Cox, referring to the show’s wins for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series.

“And there was a few of us who were singled out and there are a lot more of us who should’ve been singled out and for years. I was grateful to be one of them, but she did so well and she did so well and you killed it every season. So this feels so overdue but it feels right on time,” Cox continued of Brooks.

“Right on time,” agreed Brooks. “At that moment, I don’t know if I would’ve been ready for it, so you really have to just live in the moment and let God move the way he does. And now to have my first individual nomination it means so much to me.”

Cox later caught up with Aduba, nominated for best actress in a TV movie or limited series for Painkiller. “It’s an embarrassment of riches tonight for me ‘cause so many of my friends are here,” said Cox.

Though they didn’t reminisce about Orange Is the New Black, the friends discussed Uzo’s daughter Adaiba Lee Nonyem, whom she welcomed last year with husband Robert Sweeting.

“She’s 4 months old now, she’s adorable. I love her so much. She’s a gift to my life, we’re just truly happy, she’s the best,” said Aduba.

The 2024 SAG Awards are being held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday, and streaming live on Netflix.
