What could be chicer than a night of Hollywood's finest?

Since its 1944 inception, the Golden Globe Awards has been the ultimate hodgepodge of TV icons, movie stars and chart-topping musicians — all under one glamorous roof. Typically, celebrities seize the opportunity to unleash their most fashion-forward style on the red carpet.

Think Halle Berry (who won best performance by an actress in a limited series or a motion picture made for television in 1999's Introducing Dorothy Dandridge) arriving in her iconic red and white Valentino gown in 2000, which — according to her stylist, Phillip Bloch (via Reuters) — "upped the ante for Globes style and was a career-making dress: the perfect storm of right woman, right dress, right moment."

Through the years, some red carpet looks have continued to cause a stir and stand the test of time. From Keira Knightley's classic strapless white Valentino dress to Courtney Love's controversial ensemble from Christian Dior's "Homeless" collection, we've selected some of the most jaw-dropping fashion moments in Golden Globes history.

Jennifer Lopez's 2009 gold gown was the second time she made headlines after donning a low-cut neckline (hello, 2000 Grammy Awards Versace dress!), and she's been the doyenne of double-sided tape ever since.

We had to do a double, then triple, then quadruple take to register that that was Drew Barrymore on the red carpet in 2009 and not a ghost of Golden Globes past with her retro-teased hairstyle and flared tulle ball gown.

Cameron Diaz's 2003 minidress might be one of the shortest outfits ever to grace the Golden Globes carpet, but she gave the Chanel Haute Couture lace number some edge with a turtleneck and spiked cuff.

Just like her character on The NannyFran Drescher's style is whimsical, wild and never, ever boring. Case in point? Her 1996 Golden Globes elegant white gown paired with a full bouquet of flowers on her headpiece.

This rhinestone-adorned blazer and skirt combo is proof that Dame Helen Mirren has been a standout on the carpet since 1997 — even if not for the same reasons she was in 2023, when the Oscar-winning actress rocked a tailored black suit (sans feathered headpiece) at the Golda screening in London.
