Bethenny Frankel Opens Up About Her Split from Paul Bernon: 'Not Everything Has to End Badly'

Bethenny Frankel is opening up about her split from her ex-boyfriend, Paul Bernon.

While appearing virtually on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, the 49-year-old former Real Housewives of New York City star said she is doing "good" following her breakup.

Alluding to her separation from Bernon, Frankel told host Ellen DeGeneres: "You know, not everything works out and so many people have tried to define my life — our lives — with, 'When are you getting engaged?' 'When are you having a baby?' 'When are you getting married?' And I've just realized more in life, with people being more open and honest about their lives and what they want, that everything doesn't have to sort of end in a blue box and a bow."

She added, "We've had a great, great relationship and I'm really happy. Not everything has to end badly, some things just don't continue and it's not negative, it's just life."

Frankel and Bernon ended their relationship earlier this month, according to multiple reports.

Us Weekly and the New York Post's Page Six reported that the couple quietly split a few weeks ago. A rep for Frankel had no comment when reached by PEOPLE at the time.

Frankel, however, is still married to her daughter Bryn's father, Jason Hoppy. The two separated in December 2012 and Frankel filed for divorce a month later. Though they reached a financial settlement in their contentious divorce in July 2016, the exes remain at odds over custody of Bryn.

Later in her appearance on DeGeneres' talk show, Frankel, who recently launched a podcast, also took part in a game of "Who'd You Rather?" with the television host, who tried to set her up with a new man.

In the first round, Frankel had to choose between Bradley Cooper and Jake Gyllenhaal, a feat that she described as "Sophie's choice," before she asked DeGeneres who she would choose.

"I like both of them equally, I really do. I adore both of them," DeGeneres said, before she ended up deciding to go with Cooper, 45.

As the game progressed, Frankel kept choosing Cooper over other men that DeGeneres featured, including Lenny Kravitz, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Robert De Niro.

"All of them have been back there lined up waiting to see who it was gonna be," DeGeneres then joked at the end of the cheeky game.
