Breaking up is hard to do – especially in your 70s.

But that’s exactly what happens in Netflix’s new series Grace and Frankie, which stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two women whose husbands (played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) can’t deny their love any longer. So they ditch their wives to marry each other instead.

“We can do that now,” Sheen’s character happily declares in the show’s trailer.

“I know,” counters Tomlin’s Frankie. “I hosted that fundraiser.”

Needless to say, the two ladies, who famously costarred in the 1980 hit film 9 to 5, don’t handle the split very well, bringing a whole new meaning to the five stages of grief.

“These women’s worlds are forever changed,” Fonda told PEOPLE about the series’ shocking revelation last month. “Everything they thought they knew about their lives is over.”

All 13 episodes of Grace and Frankie will premiere on Netflix May 8.
