After weeks of waiting, Jill (Duggar) Dillard finally had her baby, Israel David, on Monday night.
So, what’s the meaning behind the unique name?
Back in 2011, 19 Kids and Counting star Jill and her family made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. And according to BabyNames.com, the name Israel comes from Hebrew and means “wrestled with God.”
Jill and her husband Derick clearly chose the name well in advance of Monday’s birth, since baby Israel sported a onesie with his name embroidered across the front in his first picture revealed to the public. Derick is also wearing a shirt that says “Israel Defense Forces” in the picture.
Though the future holds plenty of questions for first-time parents Jill and Derick, one thing is certain: If they plan on following the Duggar tradition of giving their children first names all starting with the same letter, they sure picked a tricky one to work with!
