Mamie Laverock is celebrating a "miracle birthday" as she continues her recovery.

On Tuesday, July 9, Laverock's mom, Nicole Rockmann, shared a health update on Facebook, the day after the When Calls the Heart actress — who fell five stories from a hospital balcony in May — marked her 20th birthday on July 8.

"Mamie moved onto her stomach, pushed herself up and held onto me.. at that moment we realized we could have our first hug," the post, which was written alongside a photo of the hug in the actress' hospital room, read.

"Thank you Rob for capturing this moment," she said, referencing her husband Rob Compton.

"It's a miracle," Rockmann tells PEOPLE of the moment she and her daughter were able to share a hug.

A previous post gave followers a look at the sweet birthday cake Laverock's stepfather Compton had baked and given to her. The cake was a recreation of the When Calls the Heart church, while the photo also included multiple bouquets of flowers.

"Thank you Rob for the homemade beautiful When Calls the Heart Cake. My miracle birthday," the caption read.

Other images in a separate post showed a sweet rainbow balloon birthday display created by artist Evelyn Milanes. "My miracle birthday.. somewhere over the rainbow," the caption read. A further post showed a "personally designed stunning hospital gown" created by designed Claudia Da Pointe that Laverock had received for her birthday, and included shots that showed the actress lying on her hospital bed and holding a mug.

The posts of the sweet hug and Laverock's birthday come after Rockmann shared some details of her daughter's recovery on Laverock's official Facebook on Wednesday, June 26

“Thank you for your healing messages for Mamie,” she began the post. “Mamie survived her injuries, however her road to recovery will be long. I will be setting up a mailbox for all of your cards and well wishes shortly.”

She concluded the message by writing, “Warmth, Nicole,”

The family had previously shared updates about Laverock's recovery on the GoFundMe page created after the actress was taken to a Winnipeg hospital due to a “medical emergency” on May 11. She was then transferred to a hospital in Vancouver.

They later revealed that Laverock had been in intensive treatment for two weeks in the Canadian city after she "was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories" on May 26.

"She sustained life-threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support," the post read. "We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time."

In a further update, the family then said Laverock's body had "been shattered" in the incident.

"She has undergone two 11 hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three hour surgery and another surgery today. We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26," a message read.

"Mamie is 'doing well' comparatively to when she arrived. Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up," the post added.

"We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story. Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard everyday," the update concluded.

So far, the GoFundMe page has raised over $28,500 ($38,852 CAD) of a $30,000 CAD goal.

Laverock starred as Rosaleen Sullivan in nine episodes of When Calls the Heart from 2014-2023. Prior to her stint on the Hallmark Channel, Laverock had her first professional role in 2012’s This Means War starring Reese WitherspoonChris Pine and Tom Hardy.
