Paramore have won their first two Grammy Awards. The Nashville band took home Best Alternative Music Performance at the 2024 Grammys for “This Is Why,” the lead single from the new Best Rock Album winner This Is Why. Paramore are now the first female-fronted band ever to win Best Rock Album. While Paramore weren’t there to make an acceptance speech, they did share a statement online the following day.

“First off, infinite thanks to our fans, our team, and the voting academy for making This Is Why such a moment for us, 20 years into our career,” Paramore wrote on Instagram. “Our band won two Grammys last night, sitting together in [drummer Zac Farro’s] living room, dressed in our regular clothes (yes, we saw the empty red carpet meme). Turns out, our win for Best Rock Album was a historic feat as we are the first female-fronted band to ever take home a trophy for this category. Ridiculous yet true! It’s an honor for Paramore to be a small but constant reminder for people to keep pushing these rock and alternative spaces to be more inclusive.”

Hayley Williams and Taylor York each previously won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song with “Ain’t It Fun,” but today’s honors mark Paramore (the group)’s first official victories. Other nominees in the Best Alternative Music Performance category this year were Alvvays (“Belinda Says”), Arctic Monkeys (“Body Paint”), Boygenius (“Cool About It”), and Lana Del Rey (“A&W”). And Paramore bested Foo Fighters, Metallica, Paramore, and Queens of the Stone Age for Best Rock Album.

In October, Paramore released the remix album Re: This Is Why, featuring reimagined versions of those LP songs by Panda Bear, the xx’s Romy, Bartees Strange, Wet Leg, and others. It was the latest in a series of moves highlighting the pop-punk band’s evolution into a pop-rock act and its lasting influence on a new generation of artists.
