In this episode Kyra and Tony discuss his work on the 1991 film, The Addams family. While a speciall effects makeup department was already hired by the time Tony's team came on, they were still able to do a lot of effects in the film. Hear Tony talk about creating the very first prop you see in the film and how it was a staple of Kyra's childhood memories. Kyra asks her dad what it was like to work with such an amazing cast and to create a lot of the "extended Addams" characters for the party scene. See never before seen behind the scenes on their YouTube channel for this one! @kyraegardner

Episode 6: Totally Killer

This week we jump ahead in Tony's career to time travel back to the past. Kyra asks her dad how he and his team at Alterian Studios created the mask for Blumhouse's recent time traveling horror flick, Totally Killer. Without giving too much away they discuss the decisions that led to the skinny nosed, white veneered, slick backed blondie that wreaks havoc for Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Holts characters in the movie. Tony lets us in on what was rejected in the course of figuring out the mask, and how the process led to him creating a 3D art toy company called Supercool Collective.

With a huge upcoming announcement for the podcast, this is their last episode of the year before returning in 2024. Happy Holidays everyone!

(*WARNING* For anyone who has epilepsy or has strong reactions to light flashing. There will be clips played from the film which have a strobe effect.) This week Kyra and Tony continue their deep dive into the 1988 The Blob! They tackle each remaining scene of the movie that Tony's special effect crew were involved in such as a water tank telephone booth, Kyra's mother making a cameo getting "blobbed" into a movie theater carpet, and slides that make your back break (you'll see). Tony recalls what it was like to work with Shawnee Smith, and Kyra learns how what her dad refers to as a "sit in barf" played a role in her favorite kill of the film - the kitchen sink. Stay tuned for the next episode on Blumhouse's Totally Killer!

Episode 5 (Part 1): The Blob (1988)

Another two parter?? Yep! This episode Kyra and Tony take a deep dive into one of Tony's first movie's as the beginings of his "own special effects shop." Hear about how he managed a crew, some of which who were twice his age, on the monstrously large task of figuring out how to kill folks with a gelatin goop mass known as THE BLOB. They discuss the shop dynamics, testing different materials to see what would work and wouldn't, and Paul's infamous death scene. All the while Kyra is dressed as her mom, Cindy, who (spoiler alert) dies in the film. In the next part they'll discuss the remaining kills and what it led to afterwards.

This week Kyra and Tony continue to discuss Return of the Living Dead - diving deeper into Tony's work on the half corpse zombie. They discuss the time Tony thought he accidentally killed James Karen and what it was like to witness sprinting zombies for the first time on set. They also discuss how Tony's mom (Kyra's grandmother) got to see one of the very first cuts of the movie, and how it changed shape and tone after production on the editing floor. Tony lets us in on the heartwarming longevity of the friendships formed in the making of the movie that still last today. Be sure to tune in for next weeks episode on The Blob (1988)!

Episode 4 (Part 1): Return Of The Living Dead

Episode 4 (Part 1): Return Of The Living Dead

Part 1?? Yes, we had to break this weeks episode up into two parts because there was SO much to talk about in Return of the Living Dead. In this part, Tony discusses just how he went from a college dropout working on Thriller under Rick Baker, to tackling his first animatronic puppets for his first movie. They discuss what pre production was like and how Tony was thrust into the depths of methicillin and wires. Kyra questions how some of the special effects in general were tackled throughout the film chronologically and well as up to Tony's first big gag in the film - the animated half dogs. Come back for part two where they'll discuss the half corpse, what it was like for Tony to work with James Karen, and the remainder of the movie.
