You’ll have to forgive me as I type this article one-handed. My other hand is busy petting my cat Echo, who controls my life and must provide permission if I want to move. You see, I—like many of our readers—am a pet owner, and as such, much of my time spent shopping is dedicated toward my two cats, who are incredibly opinionated and demand only the best pet products the world has to offer.

This year, we’ve tested all kinds of new goodies for our four-legged friends, from leashes and crates to treats and supplements. Whether you’re a dog owner or owned by a cat, we’ve collected our editors’ favorite pet products we've tested so far in 2024.

Best Dog Food
The Farmer's Dog

We started testing dog food in 2022, and in our two years of testing, The Farmer’s Dog has come out as the best brand you can shop for your pups. Meals are portioned well, they’re affordable, and each serving contains ingredients we can identify (so we feel good about giving it to our pups). Our tester noted that the cost was comparable to what she was spending on dry food—but the bags aren’t resealable, so just be sure you’re not wasting what you purchase.

  • Healthy

  • Affordable

  • Pre-portioned

Best Dog DNA Kit
Wisdom Panel Premium

Ever wondered what breed your pup actually was? We put a slew of dog DNA kits to the test and were most impressed with Wisdom Panel, which provided a great combination of cheap pricing and thorough results. We got our results quicker than expected, which is always a bonus since we were so eager to read them. Wisdom Panel breaks down your dog’s heritage and genetic markers so you can get a more thorough look at their physiology.

Best Dog Crate
Diggs Evolv Dog Crate

Crate training is essential for many dog owners, and in our experience, the Diggs Evolv Dog Crate makes it a breeze. It’s an attractive, safe, and versatile choice for dog owners looking to crate train. The Diggs Evolv features a large door that opens easily to expose the interior, making it feel much roomier to your pup. Plus, it’s sleek, and while it won’t be featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, it is significantly more attractive than other crates we’ve tried.

Not every dog leash is built the same. We put a slew of hands-free leashes to the test to see which was best and ended up loving the Sassy Woof. Best Cat Tree
Mau Cento

Cat trees don’t tend to be the focal point of any room—unless they’re as gorgeous as the ones from Mau. We found these trees to be on the smaller side, but they’re chic, comfy, and won over our tiny tester Piper. Their unique design makes them much more visually appealing than the standard boxy cat trees—they were also far more engaging for our cats.

Best Automatic Cat Feeder
Petlibro Space Automatic Pet Feeder

Automatic cat feeders are game-changers for cat owners who like to travel, or those who are away from home for long periods of time. We loved the PetLibro Vacuum-Sealed Automatic Cat Feeder for its ability to perfectly time and portion cat food. Unlike its competitors, this feeder also features vacuum sealing, which keeps the food extra fresh (a huge win for picky cats).

Best Cat Carrier
Tuft + Paw Porto Cat Carrier

Plastic cat carriers are out—fabric carriers are much easier to store, carry, and use. The Tuft + Paw Porto Carrier is our favorite carrier right now. It’s not a great choice for large cats, but if you’ve got a smaller one, it could make their annual vet trip a lot comfier.

Best Cat Water Fountain
Catit Flower Fountain

My cats refuse to drink still water, so we invested in the Catit water fountain in an attempt to get them hydrating. Turns out they’re obsessed with it, and love drinking from the water that flows from the fountain. It’s easy to clean, affordable, and the best way to get cats drinking.

Most trusted brand
Chewy

Chewy is one of the best online pet stores out there, and when it comes to reliable shipping and quality of products, they’re our choice for the most trusted brand. We’ve rarely come across any issues with shipping, whether auto-shipping or standard, and always enjoy the Chewy-branded items we’ve received (like the brand’s killer Goody Boxes).

Sustainability Award
Tuft + Paw

Tuft & Paw makes quite a few pet items we like, including their cat carrier and cat food. The brand doesn’t sell many products, but that’s intentional—it believes less is more. Each product is built for durability, meaning you won’t have to replace trees, carriers, or beds every year or so.
