Gone are the days when it was possible for the average automotive enthusiast to mistake one Aston Martin for another. Shifts are easy like a Sunday morning at lower speeds, and fast and sharp when the car is engaged at a higher rate. Plus, the F1 shifting is so precise that it allows the driver to maneuver with two hands on the wheel and therefore enjoy a more dynamic drive.
From both a design and engineering perspective, the new Vantage is a bolder sports car. Aston Martin wraps the car’s angular body around a lightweight, bonded-aluminum frame, which weighs less than 3,400 pounds, and its explosive agility and suspension stems from compact dimensions and a rigid subframe, respectively.
Rather than employing Aston Martin’s hallmark grille, the new Vantage features an open mouth outlined by a strong front diffuser that channels engine-cooling air. The engineers’ goal was to strip any extra weight, ensuring all remaining parts of its structure were strictly functional. The Vantage’s rear design is slightly more playful with a flick at its tail and an ultra-slim light graphic that illuminates the full length of the tailgate. Overall, its sculpted, muscular flanks and broad haunches create a predator-like stance that help earn the Vantage its nickname, “The Archetypal Hunter.”
The interior received a substantial makeover, trading quintessential Aston elegance for focus and practicality. Its distinctive cockpit features a lower driving position that creates a more immersive experience, rooting the driver with the road. The squared-off steering wheel is assertive, much like its raised gear buttons, as Aston has proudly steered clear of recent trends that call for replacing toggles with haptic touchscreens.
