Phil was at The Max when he gave DeVante his card and left. He was a record executive and wanted DeVante to audition for him. After DeVante finished singing, Phil applauded and asked DeVante to wait to sing again for Chuck. DeVante said he couldn't because he had to get back to school. Phil was disappointed to learn that DeVante was still in school, saying it wouldn't work. He offered to buy DeVante a book of brain teasers if he was so into learning, but advised DeVante not to give up his shot. DeVante decided to go back to school anyway.
