Did you know Singapore is one of the first countries globally to introduce regulations for Online Safety? Implemented in 2023, the Online Safety Act aims to create a safe digital environment for Singapore, especially our young ones, by enabling IMDA to issue online codes of practice and to direct removal of egregious content. Under the Online Safety Code of Practice, Designated Social Media Services — Facebook, HardwareZone, Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube — are required to take measures to protect Singapore users from harmful content including sexual content, violent content, suicide and self-harm content, and cyberbullying content. Our Little Red Dot is once again making big waves in the filmmaking world, both here and abroad. We are so proud to share the amazing news about "Wonderland," the 4th feature film by our very own Singaporean director Yee-Wei Chai (蔡於位). The spectacular gala premiere held recently on our shores was buzzing with excitement, with over 1,000 industry partners, media, influencers and celebrities in attendance. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam joined the event as the Guest of Honour, alongside IMDA's Chief Executive Chuen Hong Lew, and cast and filmmakers including Michelle Chang (Producer and Scriptwriter), Chai Yee Wei (Director), Chance Wanlass (Co-writer), Mark Lee, Peter Yu, Xenia Tan and many more. Supported by IMDA's MTPP grant, "Wonderland" truly embodies the spirit of Singaporean storytelling and our identity, resonating not only with local audiences but also captivating viewers around the globe. This film beautifully showcases our cultural and artistic talent, filling us with pride for our local film industry. Mentorship is essential for leadership development and is central to IMDA’s SG Digital Leadership Accelerator. At the SG Digital Leaders (SGDL) annual mixer, a key programme within the accelerator hosted by Senior Minister of State Kiat How Tan, SGDLs and global mentors connected and shared invaluable insights. The SGDL programme is designed to advance leaders through international experiences, mentorships, and networking. By pairing participants with mentors from IMDA’s global tech leaders network, we hope the exchange of ideas and experiences will drive innovation and foster growth. For instance, Jan Lim, a 2023 SGDL and Regional CEO, South-East Asia of Lenskart, made a significant leap in his career with the guidance of Zubin Gandevia, Founder of Venture Catalyst Investments. This mentorship was instrumental in his transition to a high-growth international startup and his subsequent enrolment in Wharton’s advanced management program. Similarly, Dorothy Yiu, a 2024 SGDL and CEO and Co-founder of EngageRocket—Asia’s first venture-backed people analytics software company—sought mentorship for practical business insights. 🎬 Singapore filmmakers continue to make us proud with two Made-with-SG films selected in competition at the prestigious Venice Film Festival 2024. This is a significant milestone for Singapore's film industry, underscoring our growing influence and creative prowess on the global cinematic stage. "Stranger Eyes," a captivating mystery thriller directed by award-winning Singaporean filmmaker Chris Yeo Siew Hua, is competing for the Golden Lion, marking a historic first for Singapore. Additionally, "Don’t Cry, Butterfly", directed by Linh Duong and produced by Singaporean Si En Tan of Momo Film Co, is set to premiere at the Venice Critics' Week, strengthening Singapore's position on the global film stage. The success of these films is a reflection of the incredible talent and creativity within our industry, as well as the vital support from IMDA's Media Talent Progression Programme and the Singapore Film Commission.
