You're an engineer who took their resume seriously, but recruiters still reject it? There are two types of recruiters you need to write your resume for: Wendy and Jackie. 1️⃣ Wendy is a pro – she understands tech, people, her client, her manager, and her market 2️⃣ Jackie, on the other hand, is the opposite; she's just there, junior, helping out, reading your resumes, etc. The recruitment process often starts with Jackie. She's the one that opens 100 resumes manually, investing about 10 seconds to see if the resume is worth 10 minutes. If you're lucky to pass the 10-second scan, Jackie starts reading it. She's the one that opens 100 resumes manually, investing about 10 seconds to see if the resume is worth 10 minutes. If you're lucky to pass the 10-second scan, Jackie starts reading it. 3️⃣ Chuck, who applied for one of the openings at Wendy's organization, is an experienced software engineer with a strong track record in designing and implementing complex, high-performing software systems He led the development of several mission-critical applications that have significantly improved the efficiency and reliability of his organization's operations. Chuck would be a great fit for the role! Jackie looks at Chuck's resume. She sees that he has experience in "Software System Design." But the resume doesn't really showcase his skills in "software architecture" - something Wendy told Jackie is an absolute must-have for the open position Instead of those key architecture skills being front and center, they're buried down on the second page. Seeing that, Jackie just goes ahead and hits the "delete" button 🫣 Wendy will never meet Chuck Chuck wouldn't get hired for the organization he fits greatly If you are Chuck, you need to write your resume for both Wendy and Jackie. Once you've done that, show your resume to different recruiters and ask for feedback. You can also ask ChatGPT using different prompts to see if a junior technical recruiter can verify your skills Subscribe to AXE TALENT for more tips and strategies to navigate the hiring game and win #hiringengineers #EngineeringJobs #TechCareers

Got to axe technically great senior engineer at the early interview stage. Why? Somewhat lazy communication Meaning, they return text messages and emails only a few times a week. Sometimes within 48 hours, other times within 12 hours. They wouldn’t respond to a text unless I followed up through multiple communication channels If you as an engineer interested in a job timely communication is your sharp edge. It helps you win the game ✈️ You've been contacted? respond as soon as you can ✈️ Received a calendar invite? Accept as soon as you can ✈️ Been introduced to a hiring manager? Email them as soon as you can ✈️ Received an offer? You got the point Hiring is sort of a game Either learn the rules and play well or you’re risking getting axed by a recruiter 🤷🏻♀️ 🫣 Behind the scenes: We all have clients. Agency recruiters - an actual client. In-house recruiter/HR - their hiring manager. There is always someone we report to Presenting candidates that haven't crafted the skill of timely communication is considered poor quality work for a recruiter Any senior recruiter or HR would try to avoid presenting a candidate that jeopardizes their skills of filtering talent that doesn't fit We want to be sure that even if you, as an engineer wouldn’t get a job - you would follow through the hiring process communicating timely 🚩 If a recruiter spots one or two red flags at any stage, there is a very high probability they will let you go. Even if you're a technically very strong —- Subscribe if you’re an engineer, that wants to get more behind the scenes insights into the hiring process to win the game #axetalent #hiringengineers
