Figures based on memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in November 2022, rather than full-form contract. MOU says Herman is eligible for bonuses based on team academics, but does not include any details. School Buyout figure based on provision in MOU that says if the University terminates without cause, it may, at "its sole and absolute discretion," reassign Herman to another position within the University and continue providing his base pay at the time of the reassignment for the remainder of the contract term or until Herman terminates employment with the University, whichever occurs first. If Herman chooses to separate from the University after a reassignment, he will be paid a lump-sum severance amount equal to the lesser of 20 weeks of annual salary or the remainder of the term of the agreement. - 2020
REDUCTION: Base salary of $3.5 million reduced by marginal rates resulting in total deduction of $516,250 from Sept. 1, 2020 through Aug. 31, 2021. Bonuses also being suspended during that period. Contract year ends Dec. 31. School has committed to repay deduction prior to contract's expiration on Dec. 31, 2023. - 2019
School pay includes $1,000,000 payment Herman will receive only if he remains head coach on Dec. 25, 2019. He will not be able to receive another such payment until 2022. - 2017
School pay includes one-time relocation payment of $236,316. Also, the university paid $2.5 million to Houston to assume Herman's contract. The amount is equal to the one Herman would have owed Houston within 60 days of the effective date of his termination if he had terminated the agreement without cause on or before Feb. 28, 2017. - 2015
School pay includes $100,000 that annually accrues to Herman if he remains head coach on Dec. 31. Three years' worth of these amounts will vest to Herman if he remains head coach on Feb. 28, 2018. That money, plus any additional annual amounts, will become payable if he is fired without cause after that date, or he will receive $500,000 if he completes his contract Feb. 29, 2020.
