Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

The Boston Red Sox (48-39) and New York Yankees (54-36) meet for game 2 of a 3-game series Saturday. First pitch from Yankee Stadium is set for 1:05 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Sox vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Boston leads 3-1

Boston rallied for a 5-3 victory in 10 innings in Friday’s opener, covering as a +122 road underdog. DH Masataka Yoshida hit a game-tying, 2-run HR with 2 outs in the top of the 9th to stun the Yankee Stadium crowd. After a New York 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th, Boston SS Ceddanne Rafaela led off the 10th with a 2-run blast — remember each team gets a runner on 2nd in extra innings.

Yankees RF Juan Soto opened the bottom of the 10th with a single, moving the “extra-inning” runner to 3rd, but Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen retired the next 3 batters to finish off Boston’s come-from-behind victory and its 5th straight win. Meanwhile, New York suffered its 4th consecutive loss — which all occurred at home.

While it wasn’t really a bad beat since the Over/Under (8) pushed, it was a tough pill to swallow for Under bettors who were 1 out away from cashing a winning ticket.

Red Sox at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 6, Yankees 4

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Red Sox (+150) to cover with an outright win as underdogs. However, with Cole on the mound for the Yankees — even though he lost his last 2 outings vs. Boston — I prefer to play the Red Sox run line below.

Run line/Against the spread

BET RED SOX +1.5 (-145).

Boston has won 3 straight vs. New York and enters as the hotter team, being 7-3 in its last 10 overall games. The Yankees are 2-8 in their last 10.

Plus, the Red Sox are also 5-0 in their last 5 visits to the Bronx — and 6-1 in their last 7 there.

I would completely understand if you prefer Boston’s +150 moneyline. My suggestion is just don’t bet more than 1½ units between the 2 options — Boston’s ML and Boston’s RL.

Over/Under

BET OVER 9 (-110).

The Over is 3-0-1 Boston’s last 4 games and is 8-1-1 in its last 10. The Over is also 8-1-1 in the Yankees’ last 10 outings and is 3-0-2 in the last 5 Boston-New York matchups.

Let’s ride that Over train — OVER 9 (-110) is the way to go.
