New blog post up!

This time it's my first entry to IndieWeb Carnival. I learned about it on
@capjamesg@indieweb.social's blog. July 2024's topic is "tools".
I write about my scissors. As a lefty, that is a special topic.

I have also added a section to the About page about where my internet handle "theresmiling" comes from.

un nouveau blog indie francophone

Ça fait toujours très plaisir de voir arriver des gens dans l'indieweb francophone, encore beaucoup trop petit. Bienvenue, Guillaume !

Is there a trick to getting @tailscale working with an app running in Piku? http://piku.github.io/ #IndieWeb

Looking for something to write about this month? Join the IndieWeb Carnival!

The theme this month is tools, what they mean to us, and how they help us think.

Been working on a couple random websites in my head for a bit, which is I guess how I start them. And then I find bits and pieces, and now one is almost done (fully designed, TLD purchased, just need to make a couple edits) and another I just typed up a text doc with its bones. This is how it happens. Just randomly. It's so weird.

I'm really struggling to create a tag-list page in eleventy that lists tags in a custom collection. Does anyone know how to do this? #11ty #eleventy #indieweb

Today I am officially starting my IndieWeb adventure! I've been reading and hemming and hawing and procrastinating and today this is it! The goal is to have THE MOST BASIC PAGE (literally not even going to share it yet) up and running. I'll make it prettier and cool and Geocities level flashy later.

So with this new pipeline job that I just wrote the status updates that I create on my website should be automatically posted to my mastodon. Will it work? Could it be that simple?

Apparently Date.getDay() does *not* return the day of the month in JS — it's the day of the week. I had been racking my brain for why comment dates were wrong on my blog, and I still think Date.getDate() is an odd choice to return the day of the month, but glad that's resolved. I thought it was going to be much harder, which is why I had been putting it off

@OpenMentions @guylangston You don't even need native support for #WebMention or #ActivityPub - brid.gy has you covered. I get my comments from Mastodon that way.

@fohrloop I've yet to get any WebMention #spam. On my blogs, local (via the form) is mostly spam while #WebMention and #ActivityPub comments are all legit.

Have you tried #WebMention before?

Yes - still using it
Yes but I stopped
No
I've never ehard of it

New blog post: Incremental IndieWeb

"As I evolve this site incrementally, I find I'm aligning with several IndieWeb principles. The incremental approach suits my software development instincts. But my taste for abstraction, information hiding, and modularity has also guided the way I've developed this site.

I'll list the principles in turn and explain what they mean for this site."

Shameless plug: A few weeks ago, I added a /til (Today I Learned) page to my website, where I collect random interesting things I come across during my day.

I might be biased, but you should totally check it out ;)

Finally took the time to automate the #blogroll page creation process on my site based on the feeds in my reader.

As usual, I've overcomplexified things and the write up it too long, but now I don't need to think about it anymore :)

Could also be nice to build yet another blog/website generator but with something like a POSSE/syndication system integrated by default, for example. #indieWeb

I've been really struggling with starting to build my #CS50w capstone project for a while now.

I know I'm overthinking it, but I'd like to build something with at least a bit of value, at least to myself, not another todo application.

Well, my biggest contenders in the end (just like a todo application) are not very original, and that's blocking me.

I'd like something in the spirit of the #indieWeb and the #Fediverse and so I've been thinkin about yet another #RSS aggregator.
