What sources do we use for health information?

How do we provide health information in different languages?

In some cases, Microsoft sources information in English from third parties and translates it to another language through automated means. Microsoft also uses information from market-specific health and medical websites where appropriate. Because medical and health rules and guidance may vary from region to region, translations of medical and health information should be used as a reference, not as medical advice. You should consult a medical professional in your region for specific guidance about a medical concern or medication. Microsoft cannot guarantee complete accuracy of the translations.

When to consult a medical professional

Medical and health information on Microsoft is intended to be used for informational purposes only and is not intended to be used as medical advice or to replace the guidance from a medical professional, fitness expert or nutritionist. Contact a healthcare provider if you have a medical concern, or before taking any new medications, starting a fitness program, or changing your diet. In the event of a medical emergency, call your doctor or local emergency number immediately.

Information about Ask a Health Professional

What is a valid health question?

  • Questions must be related to a health topic, such as diseases, conditions, symptoms, treatments, mental health, nutrition, or fitness.  Exception: Our health professionals will not answer questions about medications, brands of medications, or vaccines.

  • Questions must include enough information for our health professionals to answer them. Vague questions are subject to misinterpretation and will be considered invalid.

  • Questions should not be specific to an individual case. Personal health questions usually require a detailed case history to be answered accurately.

What are examples of questions that aren't valid?

  •  'Can I take Tylenol while breastfeeding?' This question is about a medication which makes it invalid.

  • 'What are the side effects of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine?' This question is about vaccinations which makes it invalid.

  • 'What can cause a woman to experience a flushed face and fast heartbeat?' This question is too vague which makes it invalid.

  • 'I have had severe pain in my arm for days. Could I be having a heart attack?' This question is too personal which makes it invalid.

Can I resubmit a question if I re-phrase it?

Yes, you can. We review each question carefully before we pass it on to our health professionals.
