Move over, coffee cup — the latest anachronism to hit Game of Thrones came in the form of a plastic water bottle visible halfway through the series finale, “The Iron Throne.”
The offending moment occurs 46 minutes and 19 seconds into the episode, just as Grey Worm brings Tyrion in front of a council of Westeros’ surviving rulers. Toward the bottom left of the screen, just next to Samwell Tarly’s left foot, a plastic water bottle can clearly be seen.
This is the second beverage-related gaffe of the eighth and final season. In episode four, “The Last of the Starks,” a coffee cup was clearly visible on a table next to Daenerys Targaryen while the survivors of the Battle of Winterfell are celebrating their victory. The next morning, HBO responded to “inquiries from those who saw a craft services coffee cup in Sunday night’s episode,” with a tongue-in-cheek statement saying, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”
By Tuesday, the errant coffee cup had already been scrubbed from the episode on all digital platforms.
Hours after the GoT series finale, viewers began tweeting about the water bottle. THR has verified the scene and reached out to HBO for comment. We’ will update this post when — and if — more information becomes available.

Are you trying to tell me the 3 eyed raven didn’t see this shit coming? All hail Bran the Broken, first of his name, ruler of 6 of the 7 realms, 3 eyes, 2 wheels and 1 water bottle. May his reign be long and recyclable. #GameOfThrones #BranStark pic.twitter.com/dv5sRhvBsl
