Grimm Review: Zerstorer Shrugged (Season 6 Episode 12)

“You shall break them with a rod.”

Grimm Season 6 Episode 12, “Zerstorer Shrugged,” is a slow hour, which is a disappointment, especially after the thrill ride that was Grimm Season 6 Episode 11.

Honestly, the final season has had a lot of promise, and then it’s fallen flat. We will get some stellar hours of television, and then a snooze fest. With this being the penultimate hour, it’s a shame that it isn’t a full on adrenaline ride or at least good.

There’s an info dump, which is nice because, hello information, but it is also a lot to process. It’s hard to follow everything, jump to worrying about Nick and Eve, go back to info dump, and then start yelling at Diana to not open the portal.

This final season should have been structured a lot differently. It should have been serialized with no cases of the week. There’s too much to explore.

Okay, let’s jump to the deaths. Now, I had breaking news cut from Nick learning about the stick to a second before Wu dies, so the deaths are ridiculously sudden for me.

Still, the deaths are sudden. They are done for shock value. There’s no sadness there because there’s no time to process what just happened.

This might sound awful, but it would have been better if Wu and/or Hank died episodes ago. Then, there would be grieving; there would be that pain. It would be a gut wrenching death that left you in tears.

Then, we would also see how Team Grimm copes (or doesn’t) with these deaths. Basically, I’m wishing that this would have been 100 times more painful, which is a little weird to say.

There are a couple moments that really do not make any sense. A lot of things are dropped in, and we are supposed to accept them as facts.

All legends of a magical staff are actually about the same staff.

Don’t get me wrong, an answer about the stick is amazing. I was yelling at the TV when Eve started to describe how the staff appeared to have been put together piece by piece. Also, how did it take everyone so long to jump to the stick conclusion? Come on, guys!

But, really, every historical/religious person who had a staff all had the same one? It’s a bit of a stretch.

As happy as I am to see Trubel back, she literally returns to Portland because her Grimm sense was tingling. Really?

She could have had some kind of intelligence or even HW picking up chatter or something that something bad was coming. There needs to be a better reason for her return.

When her first stop is to check the tunnel for the stick, it appears like she knows something. But no, she decides to go there first instead of calling Nick or anyone else on Team Grimm. Totally makes sense. There’s plenty of time to travel places and search for people who you believe are dead or are about to die.

Then, there’s the fact that the big bad from last season — Black Claw — is completely obliterated. The group that had Wesen stationed everywhere. They were taking over political offices and training young Wesen in foster care/juvie, but somehow all of Black Claw was wiped out super fast.

I do not buy it. This comes across as a speedy wrap up to attempt to explain why Trubel left initially, and why she comes back in time for the grand finale.

Trubel: So, long story short, we just have to destroy the destroyer dude, or we’re toast.

The Zerstorer wanting Diana to be his child bride made sense. It was a nice twist that helped explain why Diana knew so much about the other place, and why she could see all the symbols.

The Zerstorer wanting Kelly, on the other hand, makes absolutely zero sense. Aside from being the product of a Hexenbiest and a Grimm, Kelly’s a normal baby. There’s no indication that he has any special powers, so why does the Zerstorer want him? Do you have any theories?

The highlight of the hour, at least personally, is that everyone rallies around Diana. When she is scared, they all assure her that they will keep her safe. It is such a sweet moment. What would have been nice is Renard showing some kind of gratitude for Team Grimm being so protective of his daughter or something.
