19. Jasper (The 100)

None of the characters on The 100 have an easy time of it considering they live on a future post-apocalyptic Earth. However, Jasper’s suffering, depression, and destructive behavior is a particularly difficult storyline to watch unfold. He never truly recovers from Maya’s death, so his choice to commit suicide may not have been surprising for viewers but it is still heart-breaking.

20. Viserion (Game of Thrones)

If I could simply fill this space with nothing but sobbing noises, I would. Viserion’s death at the hands of the Night King is both sad and horrifying. It is certainly one of the most shocking moments of Game of Thrones‘ seventh season.

Although tragic, this death is a necessary one. It gives Daenerys motivation to refocus her attention on the White Walkers and their spear-throwing leader. Plus, in re-animating Viserion’s corpse, the Night King is once again raising the stakes in the war to come. I can’t believe we have to wait until 2019 to see everything play out!
