22 TV Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spinoff
15. Faith, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
When Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended Buffy’s story of growth came to an end, but the world viewers followed for seven seasons was drastically different. Faith, a fan favorite character with a lot of story left in her, should have been how this new world was explored.
With all of the potential slayers in the world activated, the drama ended with a world where many things were possible. Faith was always a bit of a rogue. These two things could result in a show that feels different from the original, but not a drastic departure.
Imagine Faith with a team comprised of new slayers and other supernatural creatures fighting the forces of evil. She’d go up against the usually baddies, but potentially other slayers using their powers for evil also. There was mention of another hellmouth in the finale, which is where Faith could set up shop.
14. Jess Mariano, Gilmore Girls
This one almost happened. We even saw the backdoor pilot for a spinoff starring Jess Mariano, but sadly, the spinoff never went further than that.
Lorelai and Rory worked best in their town and with their families. Gilmore Girls was charming because of the quirky little town at the center of it and the few outsiders who didn’t quite understand. The characters worked together, but only work on his own and that was Jess Mariano.
Jess was a mysterious wild card, who could have been a great lead. He was seen as a bad boy, he was mysterious and he could drop literary references the way Gilmore Girls did with pop culture.
Then they were the unanswered questions about him because his storyline centered on his relationships with Luke and Rory. Who would Jess befriend? What other family does he have? What people from his past would show up?
Plus, anyone watching This Is Us knows just how fantastic Milo Ventimiglia would be as a lead.
13. Remy Danton, House of Cards
All of the recent discussion about the end of House of Cards and development of potential spinoffs got me thinking about Remy Danton. Not only because of Ali’s talent, but because fo Remy’s place in the world – working as a lobbyist.
While the worlds of politics and journalism have been explored on television, lobbying itself could be a fascinating world to delve into. It’s a murky, confusing world that people have very strong feelings about.
Then there’s the Mahershala Ali of it all. He’s an exceptional actor and his performance as Remy is standout. The character is complex, well-rounded and underutilized.
12. Shoshanna Shapiro, Girls
Girls was a show full of problematic characters, but out of the bunch Shoshanna Shapiro was the best of them. The fast-talking, ambitious character brought a different energy than the other main characters. If anyone deserves another chapter, it is her.
There were several instances where Shoshanna’s story was complete separate, like when she was in Japan working, and there were engaging. It’s evidence that she can drive story on her own.
Her journey on the series found her discovering her place in the world, which is keeping her distance from the others. Something special could develop by following what she does next. Not only is she interesting, but she has a unique perspective.
11. Jenny Mills, Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow had a great start before it faltered, but it always had an amazing action-adventure series waiting inside of it. Jenny Mills was a modern-day, badass relic hunter.
After the death of her sister Jenny was struggling with finding her own path. While she found her place on Team Witness, the series is over now and the hunter could find a new adventure of her own.
Watching Jenny travel around hunting down artifacts while fulfilling her new destiny would be great to watch.
10. Sally Draper, Mad Men
Mad Men’s Betty and Don Draper were a hot mess, which greatly impacted their daughter Sally Draper and made her a very interesting character. If the story were to continue, then Sally should be at the center of the next chapter.
Viewers of the AMC series really watched her grow up on the show. Sally fought and struggled with both of her parents. Her journey to understand them mirrored the viewers experience at times, making her a character one cares about in addition to being interesting.
The problem is that Mad Men ended before Sally could explore her life as an adult. Sally was adamant about not becoming like her mother and father, so I think we should absolutely find out.
